CV / Resumé
Ian’s CV

As you can see from my portfolio, I’ve worked with some of the UK’s most prestigious companies, including BP, Jaguar, Currys, Halfords, BT and Hewlett Packard.
I’m often hired by large companies with their own IT departments. Often, company IT departments are engaged in managing internal systems or projects, so it’s good business for them to bring in a specialist for a particular project. I’m very good at working with in-house IT teams and it’s often the in-house team that will specify the requirement. I also work with small businesses or individuals too of course, and I have the advantage of big business experience to bring to the table.
I’ve been in the Internet business since 1990. At that time, there were no suitable methodologies for managing Internet production. We had to invent them. There was no “secure download” mechanism for a project we needed to build for a large client – we had to invent one. This culture of innovation has stayed with me and been enhanced by time I spent meeting with key figures like Alan Kay (a founder at Apple), Prof. len Kleinrock (inventor of packet-switching), Doug Englebart (inventor of the mouse), BT’s lead researcher for many years, Peter Cochrane and co-founder of MIT’s Media Lab Nicholas Negroponte (among many others).
